France vs Germany
Allianz Arena – Munich, Germany – June 15th

The opening game of Group F for both these sides is fit for a final itself as current World Champions, France, take on Germany in Munich, which is surely to be a game that all eyes will be on. Group F couldn’t be tougher with these two International giants, along with current European Champions Portugal also in the group. Mbappe is surely to be man that France look at to carry them forward, but they also have world class talent all over the pitch. Germany have been lackluster in recent tournaments, but they have a side capable of performing at a much higher level than they have been.

World Champions France are looking for back-to-back tournament wins, and they’re well in with a shout should they get out of this group of death. With the strong group of players that France have, along with stability of manager Didier Deschamps, they look as though they’ll be one of the teams that will be there or thereabouts come the end of the tournament, but they have to get off to a good start here in Munich. Kylian Mbappe has announced himself on the biggest stage before and has proven that he thrives in big games under pressure, and he’ll be the man to unlock Germany here, as his pace and close control with the ball is always too much for any defence. Add to the fact that Germany’s defensive line sits high with players that don’t possess the pace capable of containing the French forward, they’ll have a long night on their hands here. Antoine Griezzman is another key player in this French side as his movement helps create a lot of space for the other forwards, and France could humiliate Germany here if they’re all at it.

It’s hard to put reasons on where it’s gone wrong for Germany in recent years. They have players that should be able to perform, and they regularly do for their clubs, but when they enter the International setup, they have become completely different players. Joachim Low is one of the more experienced managers in International football, if not the most experienced, and as it’ll be his last tournament in charge of Germany, it will be interesting to see how his side performs for him. There have definitely been some issues in the German camp that have caused their dip in form during recent fixtures and previous tournaments, with Low constantly excluding key players from the side. Players like Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng to name a few have been overlooked, with Germany looking to go in another direction, but it hasn’t worked out. It looked as though Germany were going in the direction of younger players, but they’ve lacked leadership and no player has stepped up to the mark and been given pass marks in a German shirt. Each player has put in performances that aren’t acceptable and the team alone has had some very poor results in the run-up to this competition. It’ll be interesting to see who Germany do go with for the opening game against a French side, that is sure to cause any Germany team at the moment problems.
